Common Next Steps

Turn the code into the next check.

Review fuel trims

Compare trims at idle, 2500 RPM, and cruise before pricing sensors.

Add Inspection
Inspect vacuum leaks

Check intake boots, PCV hoses, and post-MAF leak paths.

Open Workflow
Check MAF sensor

Inspect MAF contamination and airflow data after intake leaks are considered.

Add Inspection
Inspect intake tubing

Look for cracked ducts, loose clamps, and unmetered air after the MAF.

Code Overview

P0330 is a knock sensor circuit fault. Separate an electrical sensor/circuit problem from actual detonation before replacing parts.

Common Causes

  • Knock sensor circuit open, shorted, corroded, or water-contaminated
  • Knock sensor damaged, loose, incorrectly torqued, or mounted on contaminated surface
  • Harness damage under intake manifold or near heat and oil leaks
  • Actual spark knock from low octane fuel, overheating, carbon buildup, lean running, or EGR fault
  • PCM input fault after sensor, wiring, and engine-noise checks pass

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Reduced timing advance or reduced power
  • Pinging under load if true knock exists
  • Poor fuel economy

Diagnostic Steps

  1. Confirm whether the engine has actual pinging/knock under load before treating it as sensor-only
  2. Inspect accessible harness, connector seals, oil/coolant intrusion, and routing
  3. Check sensor circuit resistance, shielding, continuity, and shorts according to service information
  4. Review fuel trims, coolant temperature, EGR function, fuel quality, and carbon buildup if true knock is present
  5. Torque and mounting surface matter on many engines; verify installation details after replacement
  6. Road test under similar load and confirm knock retard and codes stay normal
